Under the leadership of Fr. Mayer, newly appointed parochial administrator, St. James Catholic Church began holding Mass in Jacksonville on July 28, 2019. Fr. Mayer came to St. James after having served as the director of Campus Ministry at Santa Fe Catholic High School in Lakeland, as well as serving for a time in the Diocese of St. Petersburg where he completed assignments in chancery, parish, and hospital settings. Prior to coming into the Catholic Church in 2012 Fr. Mayer served as an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of Dallas where he was assigned as the vicar of a mission parish and become known for his fundraising, and energetic leadership and outreach.


Fr. Mayer is a graduate of Nashotah House Theological Seminary and went on to further studies and formation under the oversight of Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall and then St. Vincent de Paul Seminary in Boynton Beach. 


St. James is blessed by the musical leadership of Dr. Mary Jane Ballou who studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as well as obtaining a doctorate in Sacred Music from the Graduate Theological Foundation. She is an expert in Gregorian chant, having studied in both the USA and France and led workshops in chant for beginning and intermediate singers. Her experience in music and liturgical leadership encompass Protestant, Russian Orthodox and Catholic communities, the building of choral ensembles, and composing and arranging sacred pieces for a cappella voices.
