St. James is a Roman Catholic community of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, a diocesan like structure initiated by the Holy Spirit and established by the Vatican in 2012 to preach the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and bring unity among Christians through the evangelizing power of beauty and reverent liturgy. Since that time, the Ordinariate has been thriving and has established nearly forty mission parishes and counting throughout North America. The Ordinariate is led by Bishop Steven J. Lopes, who was appointed by Pope Francis in 2015.
St. James came to Jacksonville in 2019 and got its start in the area with the assistance and support of the Diocese of St. Augustine. Our pastor, Fr. Mayer often assists in local parishes, though his primary assignment is at St. James.
WHO CAN JOIN THE MISSION COMMUNITY?
Any Catholic can participate in any liturgy of the Ordinariate or satisfy their Sunday and Holy Day obligations by attending a Mass at an Ordinariate community. If you are interested in becoming a parishioner of St. James please print, and complete this form, and bring it with you to Mass.
WHAT IS THE MISSION OF ST. JAMES AND THE ORDINARIATE?
To enrich and nourish Catholics and to help Protestants and others come back into communion with the one, Holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church through the reverence and beauty in worship, the study of Sacred Scripture, a distinctive musical and pastoral inheritance, charity for those in need, and mutual love and forbearance toward one another as followers of Jesus Christ and His Church.
I grew up as a devout Evangelical Protestant. I had (and still have) a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and a love of the Bible. During college, in response to a calling to ordained ministry, I began studying theology and Christian history, and asking hard questions about the roots of our faith. This Holy Spirit guided quest eventually led me on a life changing journey to the fullness of the faith as found in the Catholic Church. Curious to learn more?
